The general neighborhood is listed with each place name, and we've tried to order them French Quarter --> Marigny and Bywater --> Warehouse District/Uptown and beyond.
Try checking out Paris' New Orleans Google Map! Highly recommended since this page is limited to 12 options and we've got a lot more than that.
Dinner only. On Decatur. Get there early is the first thing to know. It's first come, first-served (and you wait on the street). But it's worth it for the fried chicken, rabbit jambalaya, and gumbo. The combo is a great way to try a little of everything. Just don't order the salad.
This is our FAVORITE spot. Please find a minute to dive into the dive bar that is the Erin Rose, head to the back, and get the best damned sandwich you've ever had. Our fave is the roast beef debris poboy. Just north of Bourbon at Conti.
NB: If you find yourself outside a clean(ish) looking spot on Dauphine St, ABORT. That is not the place you want to be. Promise.
Order a frozen Irish coffee with Jameson floater to look like you belong.
This place has a great oyster happy hour. There's also lots for folks who don't like oysters (like us!). Happy Hour daily 3-6.
Did you think we'd forget? Of course you have to go if it's your first time in NOLA. Tips: Just mosey in and grab any empty table. If tables look really nuts with folks hovering everywhere or there's a line, go round back to the takeout line. And know the coffee isn't really coffee. It's chicory.
And if you're *that* new to Nola ... Cafe Du Monde is the famous beignets place. Aka french donuts with LOTS of powdered sugar. Photo cred to Sarah H.
Is it 2am and you need food? Pop into Verti Marte (or call, they deliver!) and order yourself a poboy. Snacks and drinks also available. 24 hour spot and the food is AWESOME.
Need a burger? Port of Call is the place. First-come-first-serve, and expect a wait (outside). You can get a huge tiki drink while you wait. Paris is partial to the namesake, the Port of Call. Note - this place does not have vegetarian, or even non-beef options. It's a burger or a steak with a baked potato. And it's amazing.
A great breakfast/brunch spot just a little ways into the Bywater neighborhood. It's a perfect spot to bike to!
Looking for brunch in the quarter? Check out French Toast, right in the Hotel Provincial. We loved the hibiscus mimosa!
Collard Greens Melt.
Grab a bike, take a long walk, Uber it, but you know you want it.
Known for their oyster happy hour, This one is for the oyster lovers.
(CBD = Central Business District)
You'll want a hot dog at some point. Start at Dat Dog, just down the street from the Royal Frenchmen. Street carts are also known to serve up a mean dog. Just don't go without. Please appreciate how happy Paris is with her first ever NOLA hot dog!
Gotta travel way into Uptown/Carrolton (streetcar goes there!), but it's worth it for the alligator cheesecake. Yep, alligator cheesecake. If you're waiting for a table, drop in to the Maple Leaf next door and search for Paris' bricks on the patio. One says "CB Paris Luvs NOLA." The other is a tribute to Paris' adopted Kiki, and says "For Mickey and Fritz." The Maple Leaf is also a legendary music venue.
