Like, we don't even know a good ghost tour to recommend. But if we never do get to putting that here, just let us know what you need. We know who to ask! Also Google!
It's the oldest continuously operating streetcar in the world (the world!). We love taking it from the first stop off Canal through the Warehouse and Garden Districts to Uptown to browse on Magazine Street (more below on Magazine!). You can keep riding right to the Audubon Park and the Zoo. Or, just ride a while, and hop off to ride back the other way - the neighborhoods it goes through are beautiful. Rides are $1.25, so this one is budget friendly! Download the RTA Le Pass app (for the transit authority NORTA) to get tickets, passes, and route info. There are plenty of other streetcar routes too!
Our venue is on the venerable, famous Frenchmen Street. This is where the best jazz clubs are located. Paris' favorite is DBA, but there's usually a cover. That's why Jack's favorite is like 10 other clubs (the ones without cover charges). It's hard to go wrong. Drop into a club, buy a drink ... if you don't like it, just walk out with that drink and try another! No commitment needed in New Orleans!
Right on Frenchmen about a block from the Royal Frenchmen (at 619 Frenchmen, next to the Spotted Cat) is a local, nighttime-only art market. Paris has probably bought something on every visit to the city, and if you've been to our house - you've seen art from the market.
In the gorgeous Uptown neighborhood is a stretch of Magazine St packed with shops and restaurants. We're partial to Guy's Poboy's, at the western edge of the prime shopping portion.
If, like us (ok. Paris) you are struck by the need to get some ink .... we go to Downtown Tattoo on Frenchmen. Paris has 2 from here, Hayley and Cody each have 1. Jack .... well, ask us when you see us at our wedding!
Cheap fun! For $2, you can ride across the mighty Mississippi River. Make it fancy by bringing a bottle of champagne (you're in New Orleans after all!). More details at the link:
Uh, so fun. Another NOLA institution, this music venue in Uptown was on the brink of closure and the band Galactic saved it.
(The pic is from Nola Brewing, and that happens to be David Shaw – you never know who you might bump into!)
This is a New Orleans institution and is a comprehensive, immersive museum devoted to World War II. It's very much worth the time and money (costing $35 at last check). Please plan for a (bare) minimum of three hours here. Many people take two days to do it, and it could easily fill two days.
See real (HUGE) mardi gras floats being made! In the Warehouse District, there is a free shuttle from the French Quarter. Can you find Hayley in the picture?!
